 Course Description:  Generally it has been shown that performance is a long term process and this has underpinned "Long Term Athlete Development" (LTAD) models.  Many sporting organisations across the globe have implemented these LTAD programs. In this course we will investigate some of the underlying principles of these models as well as some of the research surrounding the development process to performance and perhaps more importantly long term participation and engagement within the sporting context.

Target Audience:  Sports Coaches, Team selectors, Directors of Sport, HPE Teachers, Talent scouts, Coach Educators

Learning Outcomes

Understanding the various stages of development in terms of the athlete pathway
Understanding the process of growth and maturation in the areas of biological, social and psychological development
Applying coaching pedagogy (methods) to the selected developmental stages

CPDGAD6000  Gymnastics Athlete Development

 Course Description: Coaches need to be able to understand the holistic development of athletes including the biophysical, psychosocial domains and apply this understanding to their coaching practice. In this course we will look at some of the research behind development and participation in sport and why longer term athlete development is relevant to coaches. We will look at modeling and consider how your athletes fit within these theoretical frameworks. We will also look at how coaches can use this information to improve their coaching outcomes in improving performance but more importantly retaining athletes within the sport. This course is specifically designed to address the impact of athlete maturation on coaching and competition practice as well as provide some of the research and findings around long term development within the athlete pathway.
