CPDEX6150 EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY FOUNDATION

Course Description : 

This course is specifically designed for those with little or no background in sport sciences and provides foundation knowledge in the physiology of exercise on which subsequent courses are reliant.  It is specifically designed for athletes, coaches and teachers where application of knowledge to their own sporting and educational context is paramount.  

Topics include:

Energy Systems
Muscle Fibre Types
Cardiovascular Responses to Exercise
Adaptations to Training
Sprint Metabolism and Interval training
Adaptations to Resistance Training
Endocrine system responses to exercise

Learning outcomes:  This course aims to develop an understanding of physiological terminology, principles and practices as applicable to coaches, athletes and educators.  The course aims to allow coaches to apply this knowledge to their own coaching practice.

Target Audience:   Sports coaches, athletes, Directors of Sport, HPE teachers, Coach Educators, Team Selectors

Duration :   10 Hours including on-screen time, quizzes and additional reading

CPDEX6250 EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY PLANNING

Course Description : 

This course builds on the foundation knowledge gained from CPDEX6150 to consider factors that influence fitness and performance. It introduces physiological principles to optimise training and considers the nutritional and environmental factors on performance.   It is specifically relevant for athletes, coaches and teachers where application of knowledge to their own sporting and educational context is paramount.  

Topics include:

Nutrition and Performance- CHO, Fats and Protein
Ergogenic Aids - caffeine, creatine, HMB
Environmental Physiology - exercise in heat, cold and altitude 
Training for Sport - detraining, over-training, over-reaching
Principles of Training -iosometric, isokinetic training

EXISMED6000 EXERCISE IS MEDICINE


Course Description : This course considers the importance of exercise for overall health and introduces subsequent behaviour-change strategies specific to the adoption of physical activity as a regular part of lifestyle. It highlights the supporting role of Accredited Exercise Physiologists in assisting patients to establish an exercise program best suited to their needs. 

The course consists of three modules;

1. Background and Evidence

2. Engaging your Patient

3. Physical Activity Guidelines

Target Audience: General Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses,

Learning Outcomes :

  • Understand the mechanisms of exercise in managing chronic conditions
  • Recognise the benefits of aerobic, strength and flexibility training in the prevention and management of chronic disease
  • Understand the importance of graded exercise therapy
  • Understand the referral processes and rebates available to eligible patients
  • Feel confident in working with allied-health providers (e.g. accredited exercise physiologists) to provide multi-disciplinary care to patients.
Accreditation : RACGP - Self reported activity; APNA- 2 CPD hours

Duration: Approximately 2 hours including additional reading and onscreen time.

Assessment : 3 x quizzes and 2 x surveys

Cost: Free to enrol ( Registration required)
